Professionals also appreciate Adobe graphic design website software because it works on a variety of platforms, including Windows Vista and both Tiger and Leopard on Macs. And, for those who already own Adobe products, it’s easy to upgrade to CS3 – even from standalone graphics software programs. Finally, those who purchase one CS3 edition and then decide that they would like an enhanced version (moving from, for example, CS3 Design Standard to Design Premium) can easily make the switch.
What: Computers help us work faster, find information, and connect with people. However, they also use energy and create waste. Did you know that 90% of desktop computers are not optimized for energy efficiency? The energy used in producing and operating personal and workplace computers is huge. Corporate IT equipment alone uses more than 22 billion kilowatt-hours per year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Here’s more: About 4.6 million tons of computers and consumer-electronics waste are dumped in landfills each year in the U.S., according to Greenpeace, and fewer than 12 percent of discarded computers are recycled!
Why: If you’re the kind of person who spends the majority of your day sitting in front of the keyboard, you can make a few small changes toward reducing its negative impact on the environment. Keeping the reins steady on your computer’s energy consumption makes good technological and financial sense. Reducing the amount of energy your hungry computers eat up every day won’t only save you money on electricity bills, it will reduce your carbon footprint.
How:
Save energy and wear and tear on your hardware by shutting down your computer at night. You’ll save an average of $90 of electricity a year! The Department of Energy recommends shutting off your monitor if you aren’t going to use it for more than 20 minutes, and the whole system if you’re not going to use it for more than 2 hours.
Set the power settings of your computer for optimal energy use. Set your computer to put your monitor to sleep, spin down your hard drives, and put your computer to sleep when you’re not using it. Also, turn off any peripheral when you’re not using it—like your printer or monitor.
During usage, only have your screen as bright as you need it – unnecessarily bright screens really chew the juice.
Avoid using an animated screensaver – it’s a waste of energy! Set your saver to “none” or “blank” to lower your computer’s carbon footprint.
To save ink and paper when you’re printing from your browser, tweak the layout of a page and remove elements—like ads and images—that you don’t need on the printed page. Check out http://www.printgreener.com – to help you print only the pages you need. Also, print on both sides of the paper. The U.S. alone uses 4 million tons of copy paper annually, about 27 pounds per person! So save dough and your local landfill — print 2-sides.
When you replace your current computer system, donate it rather than bin it if possible. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, e-waste is now the fastest growing aspect of the municipal waste stream. If a computer is less than 5 years old, it can probably be put to good use by someone else and as such can be donated to a charity or refurbisher.
TIP: For your next computer, consider a notebook instead of desktop – these use under 50% the electricity of a desktop machine.

If you are currently considering purchasing a wide format printer there are probably the obvious reasons as to why you want to make this investment, however you may still be on the fence about this decision because of the initial high costs. The following may help you think outside the box a little and give you additional ideas about why it might be useful to have a wide format printer in your office.
First, wide format printers are perfect for making large scale event displays. If your company ever participates in any type of trade show or convention where you have to set up a visual booth for patrons to look at, having a large colorful visual display can be a great way to generate attention. Using a wide format printer would enable you to easily customize each event display for any specific location or theme.
Second, wide format printers are great for producing one-of-a-kind banners. If your firm has any type of store front where potential customers or clients might visit, hanging a banner informing the public about the functions of your company or any special promotions you have going on can be a great way to create traffic to your business. If you don’t have a store front, hanging banners inside the office pertaining to any employee activities or special events may be a great way to boost employee moral.
Additionally, if your business does have a store front, wide format printers can also be used to help make any point-of-purchase displays or any retail window displays. Point-of-purchase displays are important to any retail business offering any promotional specials or deals and to drive sales. Retail window displays can take many forms, posters or banners can be options, but backlit displays are unique and are sure to get your window recognition. With all of the different types of paper material available for wide format printers to use, there are a variety of different creative methods that can be applied to any sign or poster.
Wide format printers can help to make business presentations or pitches look more professional or client tailored. Large visuals can help gain client attention, and having the ability to tailor the message to the specific client on the visual is great way to impress any potential or current client. Furthermore, if there are any visuals or photos that you would like to include in your presentation but seem too small to have an effect, wide format printers can be used to help print enlargements of all of these images and get them noticed by the client.
Enlarging other visuals, such as potential print ads to be placed in magazines or news papers, can help tremendously in proofing. Because wide format printers can enlarge almost any image, they can help to proof images, ads, etc. that are up for review. Viewing such material in a large format can help draw any attention to minor flaws that may have been missed under any other editing circumstances.
There are many types of paper rolls out there to help you achieve each and every one of these possible functions. HP Bright White Paper HP C1861A is HP’s brightest, low cost bond paper for everyday black and color line drawings. There is also paper that can handle high density ink coverage for posters and signs that need to be laminated or mounted and must dry quickly; a good paper for this usage is HP Universal Heavyweight Coated Paper HP Q1414A HP Q1405A. No matter what the brand, you will find paper that yields your printing goals.
