A question asked on here often is how to make a wedding “different”. This is usually followed by a slam on “cookie cutter weddings”.
I guess my wedding was cookie cutter: we had a ceremony with officiants, I wore a white dress, we had attendants, there was a party with dinner and dancing, there were centrepieces on the tables, and there was cake. It doesnt bother me that my wedding was cookie cutter; I’m just glad that my guests had a wonderful time and that the ceremony was meaningful for us.
Im not against unique or outrageous ideas. If you want to get married while skydiving, I think thats hilarious and you only live once, you should go for it. If you dont like white and want to wear a blue dress, whatever.
I guess I am just wondering WHAT people want to be so different in their wedding? For example, having a photo booth or goldfish centrepieces isnt different, its trendy. Often these “different” things only cheapen the event, like dancing instead of walking down the aisle.
So my question is, what is the point in being different for the sake of being different? Why are so many brides so fixated on not having a “regular” wedding?

For our wedding, we had little touches here and there that maybe were different. Those things naturally evolved from our personalities, tastes, and the fact that we were combining two cultures. So I guess there were little things that were special to our wedding, but by and large it was… a wedding. Just a wedding, nothing gimmicky.
I think Seafoam summed it up best when she said “Its the same cookie, we just decorate it differently.”
